Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the capital of Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, on the north-east coast beneath the Anaga mountains.
It is a working Spanish city rather than a resort, with tree-lined plazas, the Mercado de Nuestra Senora de Africa and Calatrava's sculptural Auditorio on the seafront. The UNESCO-listed old town of La Laguna is a short tram ride uphill, Las Teresitas beach lies just north, and Mount Teide suits a full-day excursion.
The port is the Canaries' main cruise hub, busy from autumn to spring with transit calls and winter homeport sailings.

The UNESCO-listed former island capital has a grid of colonial streets, balconied mansions and the cathedral. Tram Line 1 runs uphill from near Plaza de Espana in about 35–40 minutes for EUR 1.35 with a Ten+ card.

A sheltered, palm-lined beach of imported golden sand at San Andres, about 8 km (15 minutes by taxi) north of the terminal. It's the easiest beach break on a port call.

Santiago Calatrava's wave-shaped concert hall stands on the waterfront south of the port. Walk there past Plaza de Espana, then continue to the Parque Maritimo Cesar Manrique lidos.

Laurel forest ridges, viewpoints and hamlets such as Taborno rise directly behind the city. Half-day tours or a taxi to the Cruz del Carmen visitor centre make it workable on a port call.
