Piraeus is the port of Athens and one of the Mediterranean's major cruise ports, a key turnaround point for Eastern Mediterranean and Greek Islands sailings and a popular day call.
Central Athens begins about 12 km inland. The Acropolis, the Acropolis Museum and the Ancient Agora sit in a compact historic centre with the lanes of Plaka and Anafiotika, 20–30 minutes by road from the berths. Piraeus has its own lively waterfronts, with fish tavernas around Mikrolimano and Pasalimani, and a large ferry port for the Saronic Gulf, Cyclades and Crete.
Athens International Airport is about 50 km away, linked by Metro Line 3 and the 24-hour X96 bus.

The rock-top sanctuary of ancient Athens, crowned by the 5th-century BC Parthenon, the Erechtheion and the Propylaia. It is about 20–25 minutes by road from the cruise gates, so arrive early to beat the heat and crowds.

Bernard Tschumi's glass-and-concrete museum at the foot of the Acropolis, opened in 2009. It displays the original sculptures from the Acropolis monuments, and its top-floor Parthenon Gallery looks straight up at the temple.

Athens' oldest neighbourhood, with neoclassical houses, small churches and tavernas on pedestrian streets. Above it, Anafiotika's whitewashed island-style lanes climb toward the Acropolis.

The marketplace and civic heart of ancient Athens. It includes the remarkably intact Temple of Hephaestus (Hephaisteion) and the reconstructed Stoa of Attalos, which houses the Agora Museum.
