Where is the Alesund cruise port?

Ships dock alongside in the centre of Alesund, mainly at the Sorsidekaiene (Storneskaia, Stornespiren and Prestebrygga) on either side of the Brosundet canal. Some ships moor at Skansekaia, the Hurtigruten quay north-east of the centre; check the port's mooring plan.

From the south-side quays the Art Nouveau Centre is about 3 minutes' walk and the foot of the Aksla steps about 10 minutes.

Sorsidekaiene cruise quays (Storneskaia, Stornespiren, Prestebrygga)

The main cruise berths, on the south side of the town centre either side of Brosundet. They are close together and within a few minutes' walk of the Art Nouveau streets. A tourist information desk opens on the cruise quay on call days (usually about 08:00–13:00), and the city train and hop-on hop-off buses start here.

Skansekaia

The main Hurtigruten quay, north-east of the centre, which also takes some cruise ships and has shore power. Check the port's mooring plan, because walking times from here differ from those at the south-side quays.

Parking at the Alesund cruise port

Alesund is a port of call and no cruise passenger parking is published. The quay areas are closed to the public for security while ships are alongside.

Destination

About Alesund

Alesund sits on a chain of islands on Norway's north-west coast. After a fire destroyed most of the town in 1904, it was rebuilt in the Art Nouveau style, giving it a uniform townscape of turrets, ornamented facades and pastel warehouses along the Brosundet canal.

The town mountain Aksla rises behind the centre, with 418 steps up to the Fjellstua viewpoint over the islands and the Sunnmore Alps. Fishing and the salt-cod trade built the town, and seafood still dominates its menus.

Alesund is one of Norway's busiest cruise ports, and ships dock beside the old centre, so most sights are on foot.
