Ilulissat is a major summer cruise port but has no cruise terminal. Most ships anchor in Disko Bay and bring passengers ashore by tender to the town harbour; a few small expedition ships berth alongside in the outer harbour. The exact tender landing is set by each ship, and ice, wind and fog can delay or cancel landings. The Art Museum sits just above the harbour, and supermarkets are close by.

Just south of town lies the Ilulissat Icefjord, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where huge icebergs drift out from the Sermeq Kujalleq glacier. A visitor centre and a boardwalk to the old Sermermiut settlement give views over the ice, and boat trips run among the icebergs.
