Warnemunde is the seaside resort district of the Hanseatic city of Rostock, set where the River Warnow meets the Baltic Sea in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Its old fishing harbour, the Alter Strom, is lined with fishing boats, fish-roll stalls and former captains' houses, while a broad white-sand beach runs past the 1897 lighthouse and the shell-roofed Teepott pavilion. Rostock's brick-Gothic old town, with St Mary's Church and its 15th-century astronomical clock, is a short S-Bahn ride inland.
Warnemunde is Germany's busiest Baltic cruise port, with 162 calls planned for 2026, and AIDA Cruises uses it as a home port for passenger changes. It is also the usual gateway for long rail day trips to Berlin, roughly three and a half hours away.
