Manila is the capital of the Philippines, on Manila Bay. Cruise ships berth at Pier 15 in Manila South Harbor, at the Eva Macapagal Cruise Terminal, close to the city's historic core. Fort Santiago and San Agustin Church in the walled city of Intramuros are under half an hour on foot, and Rizal Park, with the National Museum of Fine Arts beside it, is about 17 minutes away. Binondo, the old Chinatown across the Pasig River, is a short taxi ride. The dry months from December to April are the driest time to visit.

Fort Santiago, built by the Spanish on the site of Rajah Soliman's log stockade at Maynila, guards the mouth of the Pasig River at the edge of the walled city.

This all-stone church is the oldest in the country and one of the four Baroque Churches of the Philippines on the UNESCO World Heritage List, with trompe l'oeil painted interiors.

The museum complex by Rizal Park includes the National Museum of Fine Arts in the former Legislative Building, with 29 galleries of 19th-century Filipino masters, National Artists and modern painters and sculptors.

One of the largest urban parks in Asia and the birthplace of Philippine nationalism, Luneta is the resting place of national hero Jose Rizal, where the changing of the guards can be watched.
