Where is the Kings Wharf cruise port?

Ships dock at the Royal Naval Dockyard on Ireland Island, Sandys Parish, at Bermuda's far western tip, about 24 km by road from the City of Hamilton. There are two cruise berths: King's Wharf, on the North Arm breakwater beside a visitor information centre, and Heritage Wharf, opened in 2009 just to the north. Both are a 5–10 minute walk from the Dockyard's shops, restaurants, Clocktower Mall and the National Museum of Bermuda.

The Dockyard ferry terminal, with fast ferries to Hamilton and St George's, and the bus stop for Route 7 are next to King's Wharf. Ships often stay overnight. Expect construction at the King's Wharf North Arm until about March 2027.

Kings Wharf Cruise Terminals

2 terminals

King's Wharf

The original 1850s Dockyard breakwater on the North Arm, rebuilt over time for cruise ships, with a terminal building and a visitor information centre. Mainly used by Norwegian Cruise Line (operating agreement to 2037) and also by Carnival and others. An NCL-funded extension of the deck and excursion dock is due to finish around March 2027.

Heritage Wharf

A purpose-built second cruise berth, opened in 2009, just north of King's Wharf. It takes the largest ships, such as Royal Caribbean, Virgin Voyages and Princess.

Parking at the Kings Wharf cruise port

There is no cruise parking at the Royal Naval Dockyard: Bermuda is a port of call and visitors can't rent conventional cars on the island. Passengers use ferries, buses, taxis or rented electric minicars and scooters; taxi ranks and bus stops are next to the wharves.

Destination

About Kings Wharf

Kings Wharf is the main cruise pier of the Royal Naval Dockyard on Ireland Island, at the western tip of Bermuda in Sandys Parish. Built by convict labour in the 19th century as Britain's principal naval base in the western Atlantic, the Dockyard's limestone storehouses, clocktower and ramparts now hold shops, restaurants and the National Museum of Bermuda inside The Keep, the island's largest fort.

Most ships berth either at King's Wharf or at the neighbouring Heritage Wharf, opened in 2009, and stay overnight or longer, so passengers have time to explore the whole island. Fast ferries cross the Great Sound to the capital, Hamilton, in about 20 minutes, buses run along the South Shore to pink-sand beaches such as Horseshoe Bay, and ferries also link the Dockyard with historic St George's.

Climate
Subtropical oceanic: warm, humid summers around 27–30 °C and mild winters around 17–21 °C, with rain through the year; the hurricane season runs June to November.

Things to Do in Kings Wharf

National Museum of Bermuda

Explore 500 years of island history inside The Keep, Bermuda's largest fort, about a 10-minute walk from either wharf. The 16-acre site has eight listed buildings, including the Commissioner's House, as well as shipwreck finds, cannon, a Hall of History mural and big harbour views. Open 9:00–17:00 from April to October and 10:00–17:00 in winter (last entry 16:00). Admission is $20 for adults and $18 for seniors.

Horseshoe Bay Beach

Spend the day at Bermuda's best-known South Shore beach, a curving bay framed by limestone rocks, about 25 minutes by taxi or an hour on the Route 7 bus ($5 cash). The beach is free and has a beach house with restrooms, changing rooms, food and chair, umbrella and snorkel rentals. Lifeguards are on duty in season, and contracted lifeguards have also covered the off-season since December 2025.

Ferry to Hamilton

Take the fast ferry across the Great Sound to Hamilton, Bermuda's capital, in about 20 minutes on direct Blue Route sailings ($5 cash, $4.50 token, or a $19 day pass that also covers buses). Front Street's pastel shops and cafes start at the ferry terminal. The Orange Route ferry also links the Dockyard with historic St George's.
