Destination

About Icy Strait Point

Icy Strait Point is a privately owned cruise destination on Chichagof Island, built around a restored 1912 salmon cannery a short distance from Hoonah, Alaska's largest Tlingit village. Owned by the Native-owned Huna Totem Corporation, it has two floating piers, Ocean Landing near the cannery and Wilderness Landing to the east, so ships dock rather than tender. A free Transporter gondola links the piers, while the paid Skyglider climbs Hoonah Mountain to the launch of the World's Largest ZipRider, which lands back beside the cannery.

Icy Strait is known for humpback whale watching from May to September, and the waters near Point Adolphus are especially productive. A flat shoreline path or a short shuttle ride leads to Hoonah's harbor, cafes and Tlingit cultural sites. There are no taxis or rideshare, so plan around the shuttle, walking and excursions.

Climate
