About Manama

Manama is the capital of Bahrain, a small island kingdom in the Arabian Gulf joined to Saudi Arabia by causeway. The city mixes glass towers and a busy waterfront with older quarters around Bab Al Bahrain and the souq, where gold, spices and textiles are traded. Bahrain's long history as a trading hub shows at Qal'at al-Bahrain, a UNESCO-listed fort and excavation site, and in the Bahrain National Museum. Cruise ships berth at Khalifa Bin Salman Port at Hidd, on Muharraq island east of the capital.
