Things to Do in Mackinac Island

Fort Mackinac

The white-walled fort on the bluff above the harbour has stood guard over the island for more than 240 years. Visitors can hear the boom of its cannon and look out over the harbour and the Straits of Mackinac, and a tea room inside serves lunch. Tickets cost USD 17.50 for adults and USD 10.50 for ages 5 to 12, with children 4 and under free.

Grand Hotel

The Grand Hotel looks out from the hillside west of downtown behind a 660-foot front porch, visible to ships approaching from Lake Huron. Visitors who are not staying can buy admission to explore the hotel and its grounds with a self-guided brochure, relax on the porch and book lunch or afternoon tea; the hotel's day-time dress code applies.

Arch Rock

This natural limestone bridge on the east side of the island rises more than 140 feet above the waters of Lake Huron, framing the blue lake through its opening. It sits in Mackinac Island State Park, Michigan's first state park, which covers more than 80 percent of the island, and the Milliken Nature Center stands beside it.
