Things to Do in Béjaïa

Casbah of Béjaïa

Citadel built by the Almohads at the edge of the old town, a short walk from the port. Covering about two hectares, it holds buildings from the Berber and Spanish periods and the old Ibn Khaldoun mosque, where the scholar Ibn Khaldun served as imam. It is listed as national heritage and is open to visitors after restoration.

Mount Gouraya and Fort Gouraya

Mount Gouraya rises to 660 m above the town and is said to be the burial place of Yemma Gouraya, the city's patron saint. It lies in Gouraya National Park, a UNESCO biosphere reserve, and Fort Gouraya stands near the top, reached by the Route Touristique.

Cap Carbon lighthouse

Cap Carbon, about 5 km from the town centre, is an islet joined to the coast by a small isthmus. A path leads to a lighthouse at 220 m.
