About Ali Island

Ali Island is one of four islands off the northern coast of Papua New Guinea, near Aitape. A white sandy beach lines its eastern shore, and five villages are connected by well-maintained trails that lead to a Catholic church decorated with paintings of the Stations of the Cross. Guests land on the beach from small boats in a wet landing, and villagers welcome them with sing-sing performances in ceremonial headdresses, arm bands and grass skirts. The indigenous Yakamul language is spoken here.
