Where is the Agats cruise port?
Agats has no cruise berth. Small expedition ships anchor in the river channel near the town, timed with the high tide, and guests go ashore by inflatable boat or small boat. Ashore, raised wooden boardwalks link the town, its carved cathedral and the Asmat Museum, and visits are led by the expedition team. Nearby Asmat villages are reached by small boat along the mangrove waterways. Landing points and timings vary with the tide.

About Agats
Agats is the small capital of the Asmat region in Indonesia, built entirely on raised wooden boardwalks above a vast tidal mangrove swamp crossed by rivers. The Asmat people are renowned for their woodcarving: ancestor poles, shields, drums and canoes, displayed in the Asmat Museum of Culture and Progress and sold directly by village carvers. Expedition cruises visit for welcome ceremonies with war canoes, cultural performances and small-boat trips to nearby villages, making it one of the most remote cultural calls in Asia and the Pacific.
