Things to Do in Aappilattoq

Aappilattoq village

Home to about 100 people who live mainly from hunting and fishing, this tiny settlement sits on a small granite peninsula in Prince Christian Sound. Its brightly painted houses are scattered over the rock beneath a towering peak, and a little red church stands beside a white-fenced graveyard. Visits can include meeting residents, hearing the church choir and trying local food.

Prince Christian Sound

This roughly 100 km channel links the Labrador Sea with the Irminger Sea at Greenland's southern tip, winding between steep granite peaks, glaciers and waterfalls fed by the ice sheet. Icebergs drift through the sound, and seals rest on the ice, with whales sometimes seen. Most ships visit Aappilattoq while transiting the sound, which is free to enjoy from deck.
